The Grand Canyon


What is it? ..................... A 322 km (200 ml) chasm in the Earth's surface.
How to get there: ....... Highway 64 or rail from Williams
When to go: ................... The south rim is open all year, but is busy in summer. The north rim is shut from mid- October to mid- May. The lower reaches of the canyon are extremely hot in summer.
Nearest Town: ................ Williams 95 km.
Don't Miss: A mule ride into the canyon.
You should know: ....... The Sky walk viewing platform is over a side canyon off the north side of the river, and is accessible only by a shuttle bus trip from Grand Canyon west of as part of a tour package.

The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided gorge carved by the Colorado River in the United States state of Arizona. It is largely contained within the Grand Canyon National Park — one of the first national parks in the United States. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of preservation of the Grand Canyon area, and visited on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery.
